Our Story & Vision
About Us
“And when I had asked the name of the river from the brakeman, and heard that it was called the Susquehanna, the beauty of the name seemed to be part and parcel of the beauty of the land” Robert Louis Stevenson, 1879
Susquehanna Community Bank was founded March 13, 1920, with 201 accounts and resources of $49,000 in the village of West Milton, PA along the Susquehanna River. As our resources grew, so did our success. In 2021, we were ranked as one of the top 200 community banks in the nation for the twelfth consecutive year based on three-year average return on equity. In addition, we have finished in the top 25% of banks in the state of Pennsylvania for 2012-2022 according to a leading bank performance report of 8 different performance criteria. Today, we have over 30,000 accounts and $550 million in Assets.
Our growth has been gradual, but we couldn’t be prouder of where we are today. In 1972 the Bank built a new building, the current location for the West Milton branch, to accommodate the growing staff and emerging needs of our customers. That growth led to the addition of six new branches throughout the years: Lewisburg in 1987, Mifflinburg in 1994, Watsontown in 1997, Beaver Springs in 2005, Northumberland in 2015, and Williamsport in 2019. Although the Bank has seen many changes over the last 100 years, our mission as an independent community bank to “help our family, friends and neighbors succeed” continues to be the same.
Susquehanna adds value beyond personal service by offering customers convenience through technology. Customers can bank with us from anywhere, at any time with our convenient online solutions such as our online mortgage and consumer loan applications, online banking with bill pay, mobile banking with mobile deposit, MoneyPass® ATM network of 32,000+ ATMs worldwide, and remote deposit capture for our business customers. Customers are banking with us 24/7 in over 40 states. We understand that community banking is built on trusted relationships, and our “touch” is personalized, convenient, and responsive. Our dedicated employees deliver exceptional service tailored to the individual business and personal needs; including commercial, agriculture, mortgages, treasury management, savings and Investment advisory solutions.
Let’s face it; great people are what makes great companies thrive. Our employees are truly our brand as they deliver the “Better Banking Experience” on a daily basis. They take pride in volunteering at community events and donating to local non-profit agencies. It’s a good time to try a community bank and an even better time to try out Susquehanna Community Bank. Come and add to our story…
New Name. Same Independent Community Bank.
As of July 1, 2018, we changed the bank’s name to Susquehanna Community Bank. Our name change is a celebration of our success and growth from our original location in the village of West Milton beginning in 1920 to now seven branches that span along the Susquehanna River.
Rest assured Susquehanna Community Bank will remain an independent community bank under the same ownership and management, and your personal bankers will continue to deliver the same exceptional service you’ve come to expect. Your account numbers will remain the same, and debit cards and checks issued under West Milton State Bank will continue to be honored.
WHY DID WE CHANGE OUR NAME TO SUSQUEHANNA COMMUNITY BANK?
It’s a celebration of our growth and success. Our new name, Susquehanna Community Bank, better reflects the communities we serve today.
WAS THE BANK BOUGHT OR MERGED WITH ANOTHER BANK?
No, we are as committed as ever to remain an independent, community bank.
